Introducing Hope Vance

This summer, we are pleased to welcome Hope Vance to our practice.  Hope joins us from Fayetteville, North Carolina, where she was a paralegal for over six years specializing in estate administration and planning.

Hope grew up in Letohatchee, Alabama, a small town off the beaten path.  She was first exposed to estate law when she was twenty-three. Her grandparents, who adopted Hope after she was born, died only months apart.  Although Hope is the youngest of seven children, it became her responsibility to administer her grandfather’s estate. At the time, Hope was in college studying to become a paralegal, and she felt overwhelmed by the prospect of navigating the administration process.  After consulting an estate attorney to help her, she felt drawn to estate and trust law and called to help people by relieving their fear and stress at one of the hardest times of their lives.

Much of Hope’s experience has been focused on estate administration, because she worked for the North Carolina Public Administrator, who administers estates when there is no one else available to do so.  However, she also has experience in and passion for estate planning. Her wish is for people to see that estate planning does not have to be difficult or intimidating, no matter what their stage in life or circumstances.  Her philosophy is that we work hard for our assets and we should make sure they are protected from uncertainty at death.

Hope and her family live in Chesterfield.  Her husband is stationed at Fort Lee, and they have two daughters, age seven and eleven.  We are thrilled they have made Virginia their new home and even more excited that Hope has brought her experience and passion to help our clients.  Welcome aboard, Hope!

Seeking Part-Time Legal Secretary And Office Manager

Schooley Law Firm, P.C. is actively seeking a part-time legal secretary and office manager to support two lawyers and fit well within our growing, vibrant practice.  We eschew the staid brass and mahogany veneers of many law firms, and pride ourselves on our lively culture, our ability to connect with our clients, and our elevated standard of ethics.

Qualified candidates must possess remarkable interpersonal and organizational skills, exercise attention to detail, and exhibit exceptional communication and listening skills.  Spelling, punctuation and use of grammar must be of high quality.  A fervent belief in orderliness, efficiency, and systems is absolutely necessary.

Core Functions:

·       Interfacing with new and existing clients

·       Manage new client intake process

·       Manage attorney meeting schedules

·       Paper and digital filing

·       Office supply management

·       Processing invoices and payments

·       General correspondence

·       Manage client database

·       Tracking client referrals

Experience: A minimum of three years in a legal environment is preferred, as is knowledge of Mac-based computing.  Ability to use Microsoft Office and Excel is expected, as is the ability to quickly learn Quickbooks accounting software and Lucidchart.
